Let's go down to the waterline
头重脚轻地先说了一气，还是汇报一下乐团历史。成立1977，英国代特福德郡，初期人物如下：Mark Knopfler (guitar and vocals), David Knopfler (guitar), John Illsley (bass) and Pick Withers (drums)——后来乐团换人流水自然不在话下，只Mark Knopfler捧着那把炫目吉他玩到底，几乎每张专辑都大卖。好玩的是，他们的音乐在美国卖得比老家英国好很多——有人因此说，英国摇滚的实验Acid风格到底浓厚，不是美国那帮土财主比得了的，而sou认为这实在跟两国气候有关，一笑。
第一次听Dire Straits应是在1998年，Album：Sultans of Swing，1978。CD开头是Down to the Waterlin，刚好这也是sou相当喜欢的一首，在所有喜欢的歌曲里面甚至可排前五，不是自大，这大致也算个小小荣誉。Down to the Waterline胜在意境，以听觉营造电影质感，此曲独得；词亦极佳，海港，雾号，妓女，热恋男女，褴褛青春；不似国人最熟的Brothers in Arms那般动听，反有质朴的动人之处。
Dire Straits的好歌不少，临时想起来，Sultans of Swing，On Every Street，Romeo and Juliet，Mark的个人专辑Ragpicker's Dream，Six Blade Knife等等，不一一介绍了，用点对点搜，还算容易找，老外歌迷人数众多。
